'An important play for our modern human experience'

Auditions previewed by Rebecca Francis | director

Tissue is a contemporary piece of theatre that explores what life is like before, with, and after breast cancer.

It looks at ideas of femininity, worth, and intimacy through the life of Sally Bacon (as in eggs and!).

Breast cancer has been often seen as a 'woman's thing' however with men also being susceptible to this insidious disease, as well as most people knowing someone who has had it,
Tissue is an important play for our modern human experience.

Just as in life, there is light and dark within the story and this play, whilst about a tragic theme is anything but!

The non-linear nature and multi-role aspects of the play allow for experimentation and exploration of characters in an unusual way.

This is truly an ensemble piece which will require the actors to immerse themselves on stage. In addition physical movement will be vital in the storytelling.

  • 1 male
  • 2 female

These are multi-role characters.

However, this cast size can double to allow for more experimentation.

Whilst this is a scripted play, there will be a need for actors to be open to devising under direction. Please don't be put off by this, you will be guided through the process.

For the audition please come wearing clothes you can move in and be prepared to show your creativity. There will be a chance to read also; script extracts will be provided closer to the time.

Masque Theatre's production is directed by Rebecca Francis.
